Britannia Roofing · Established 1999
Cotswold stone roofs. Carefully repaired and renewed.
A stone roof is part of the character of a Cotswold home. We repair and renew traditional stone roofs, taking care with the existing materials, the shape of the roof and the details that keep it weatherproof. We source and fit materials as part of agreed roofing work; we do not sell loose tiles or slates for collection.

A roof worth understanding
We begin with the condition of the stone, its fixings and the surrounding roof. Slipped or broken pieces, previous repairs, damp inside and worn junctions can point to different problems. We explain what can be repaired locally and where a wider section may need attention.
Repair, reuse and renewal
Sound existing stone may be suitable for reuse. We assess it before agreeing how much can be retained and what replacement material is needed. Your quotation explains the proposed roof covering, underlay and battens where included, leadwork, valleys, ridges and access arrangements.
The details around the stone
Dormers, rooflights, chimneys and valleys need as much consideration as the main covering. We look at how those details meet the stone roof and discuss the proposed finish. If your architect or conservation adviser has prepared a specification, send it with your enquiry.
Stone courses, fixings and roof junctions
The pattern of the stone courses and the existing roof profile help define the building's character. We consider those details when assessing what can be retained and how replacement stone will fit. A slipped stone can indicate a fixing problem, while water inside may have travelled from a valley or chimney junction. The visible symptom needs to be assessed alongside the surrounding roof before a repair is specified.
Arrange a stone roof assessment
Send your postcode, a wide photograph of the property and the areas of concern, taken from a safe position. Tell us whether you need a repair, a full reroof or advice on a project already being planned.

Can you reuse my existing Cotswold stone slates?
Yes, where they are sound and suitable. The reusable proportion depends on their condition. We discuss that after inspection and make clear how replacement stone will be allowed for in the quotation.
Does a leaking stone roof need a complete reroof?
Not always. A leak may come from a local defect or a junction such as a valley or chimney. We assess the surrounding roof before advising whether a repair or more extensive renewal is appropriate.
Can a photograph show whether the stone or its fixings have failed?
A photograph can show a slipped or damaged stone and help us plan an inspection, but it may not show the fixing or timber beneath. We explain what can be seen and what needs closer inspection before confirming the repair. Take photographs only from a safe position.
Can you match replacement stone to the existing roof?
We consider the size, thickness, colour and appearance of the existing stone when discussing replacements. Exact matching depends on what suitable material is available; we explain the options before ordering.
What affects the cost of a Cotswold stone roof?
The roof area, usable existing stone, replacement material, access, scaffolding, leadwork and the condition uncovered all affect the price. We prepare a written scope for your property rather than giving one price for every stone roof.
What should I send if the property is listed?
Include any known listed status and the roofing specification, drawings or advice you already have from your architect or conservation team. Confirm the necessary permissions with the relevant authority before arranging work.
Do you sell roof tiles or slates on their own?
No. Britannia Roofing is a roofing contractor. We repair and install roofs, with materials included in the agreed work. We do not operate a roofing-materials shop or offer supply-only tile and slate sales.
Can I choose an insurance-backed guarantee?
Yes. Britannia Roofing offers an optional insurance-backed guarantee (IBG) with eligible roofing work. Ask us to confirm the available cover, any additional cost and the policy terms with your written quotation. It is not automatically included with every job.
